A group of concerned health workers in Winnipeg had a protest near Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister’s house at Wellington Crescent. The group hangs a hospital smocks using a clothesline.

Below is a copy of the group statement that was sent to press, the original copy was uploaded at r/Winnipeg.

We are a group of concerned Nurses, Allied Health, Support Staff, and Front-Line Workers. We watch as our Covid infections and test positivity rate increase, becoming the worst in the country. We watch as numerous preventable deaths have shattered families. We are angry and terrified.

We are afraid for our patients and clients, we are afraid for our family and friends, we are afraid for our colleagues and coworkers, and we are afraid for ourselves and all Manitobans.

We were appalled at the government’s response to the open letter to Brian Pallister. We support the letter. And we support our Doctors as they battle this pandemic with us; further hampered by the government’s response. We also ask that a public apology be made by the current health minister for the comments he has made about the Doctors who signed this letter.

Personal protective equipment is not available to all people currently working on the front lines. Those who need it often have to search and beg for proper protective equipment. People feel intimidated and bullied into using less personal protective equipment than is recommended.

We do this anonymously for fear of retribution. And the possibility of losing our ability to continue to care for Manitobans.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a newly revamp stimulus package that will help Canadian during this COVID-19 pandemic. The House of Commons and the Senate passed the bill today.

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) will give you $2,000 a month for up to 4 months if you are qualified. This will be a big help for everybody who is directly and indirectly impacted by this disease.

“The hard truth is people are out of work because of this crisis and worried about what comes next. So I want you to know that we’ll be there to help you. Our government is doing everything we can to be there for you,” he said.

Here are the things you should know about the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB).

Who Qualifies for CERB?

  • If you lost your job (laid off), are sick, quarantined, or taking care of someone who is sick with COVID-19, as well as working parents who must stay home without pay to care for children who are sick or at home because of school and daycare closures.
  • The CERB would apply to wage earners, as well as contract workers and self-employed individuals who would not otherwise be eligible for Employment Insurance (EI).
  • Additionally, workers who are still employed, but are not receiving income because of disruptions to their work situation due to COVID-19, would also qualify for the CERB.

When and How do people apply?

The online portal to apply for CERB will be available in early April, and people can expect payments within 10 days. CERB payments will be issued every four weeks and will be available from March 15, 2020, to Oct. 3, 2020.

What about those already collecting EI?

  • If you are already receiving employment insurance (EI) regular and sickness benefits will continue to receive it. You should not apply to the CEB.
  • If you already have applied EI and whose application has not yet been processed, you don’t need to reapply.

Canadians who are eligible for regular EI and sickness benefits can still access those benefits if they’re still unemployed after the 16-week period covered by the CERB.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today a new stimulus package that will help Canadians who are unemployed right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic that is making our life upside down.

PM Trudeau posted this good news on his official Facebook page.

We’re doing everything we can to support you right now. Because at a time like this, you should be focused on what matters most – your health and the health of those you love. That’s exactly why we’re announcing the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit today.

If you’ve lost your income as a result of COVID-19, the Canada Emergency Response Benefit will give you $2,000 a month for up to 4 months. If you’ve lost your job – whether you worked full time, on contract, or were self-employed – you qualify for the benefit.

If you lost income because you’re sick or quarantined, if you’re looking after someone who’s sick, or if you’re home taking care of the kids – you qualify. And if you’re still employed but not receiving income because of COVID-19 – you qualify too. We won’t leave anyone behind.

Canadians are fearful of what’s happening around the world and we did not notice that Spring is here! Yes, warm weather is upon us, snow will melt soon and COVID-19 will evaporate too.

Spring came early this year, the first day usually happens on March 20 or March 21 but this time it’s earlier!

According to Almanac.com – For much of the last century, the spring equinox has occurred on March 20 or 21. This year, however, the equinox happens on the 19th in all U.S. time zones, making it the earliest spring we’ll have seen in our lives (so far). The last time spring arrived this early was in 1896—a whopping 124 years ago!

Time to look forward to better days ahead of us as Spring and Summer are here. We need to have a break from fearfulness and anxiety induced by this coronavirus.

Could spring impact the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19)?
